Konrad was born on 16 May 1876 in the village of Strusiv in Ternopil Region.〔''(Biographies of twenty five Greek-Catholic Servants of God )'' at the website of the Vatican〕 He studied philosophy and theology in Rome, where he defended his dissertation and received his doctorate.〔'(Beatification of the Servants of God on June 27, 2001 )'' at the website of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church〕 He was ordained a priest in 1899.〔Alan Butler, Paul Burns.
